Shattered Stone: The Story Behind A Ring

2nd Lt. Win Jackson received this ring as a Christmas (1943) gift from his wife (Dorothy Jackson) and was wearing it when he ditched in the English Channel on December 30th, 1943. He smashed the original stone in this ring while seeking to escape from the sinking bomber. The shattered stone remained in place until 1971 when it was replaced as a surprise Father's Day gift.

The wording around the stone:

*** PILOT OFFICER ***
  U*S*A*A*F

Inscribed on the inner side is:

  D.C.J
to W.A.J. Jr.
  12-25-43
