Forming Up

B-17s of the 544th Squadron, 384th Bomb Group get into formation prior to departure from allied air space during a mission in April, 1944.

The closest aircraft is B-17G-20-BO, Ser. No. 42-31435, (SU-S), "West End". The Clayton crew flew "West End" on the April 19, 1944 mission to Kassel, Germany. This aircraft was heavily damaged on a mission to France on July 6, 1944. It was salvaged after return to England.
